Margaret Wanless in Scotland sent a photo of her husband's grandfather, James Wanless (1879-1968), wearing a hat and glasses. He was the son of William Ramsay Wanless, who was the son of "Cousin" James Wanlass (1827-1877, the baker).
We know that these men shared the same Y-Chromosomal DNA with our James Wanlass (1825-1895, the miner) and all of his direct male descendants. When we compared the photo that Margaret sent with photos of our James Wanlass's son, James Wanlass (1846-1921), we think we see a familial resemblance.
I'll post two photo so you can make a judgement. What do you think? Please leave a comment.

Likeness in the two very near. Bert's dad looks very much like his father (James).Have you tried old newspapers to see if there was anything about baby left on door step.

Yes, Margaret, I searched the archives of "The Scotsman" newspaper. I found one reference to a baby boy left on a door step, but it happened about 18 months after the birth date used by our James Wanlass. You can see a description of my newspaper research at:

Dont suppose that Ramseys are the people who found and raised this newspaper baby
My husband is Robert Ralph Wanlass
His father was Robert Hancock Wanlass , son of Alexander Wanlass and Alicr Olive Hancock.
I knew everyone but Alexander. He died when Robert H. Was 2 months of age.
We have wondered which account of James was correct for some time.
We see a resemblance to Alexander as well.
The account we have been hearing is that he was left on the steps of a church wrapped in a blanket of fine cloth.
The area was abundant with windmills, and so the gave him the name of Windless.
